5. Salt Flats
Located in southwest Bolivia, at the top of a 12,000 foot high
plateau, lies the Salar de Uyuni, or the Uyuni Salt Flat. A large
producer of, what else, salt
the flat
covers a 4,000 square mile surface area. In addition to salt, the Salar
de Uyuni also has untapped lithium reserves and is home to the world’s
largest pink flamingo habitats and approximately 80 other bird species
as well. Covered in a thin layer of water for most of the year, the
Uyuni Salt Flats are a sight to behold.

4. Zoo
Calculating the biggest zoo can be tricky so for this list a
combination of acreage and number of species displays was used –
bringing us to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. Home to the
largest indoor desert and biggest cat complex, the 130 acre complex has
more than 960 animal species and 17,000 animals on display.
3. Power Station
Despite environmental and local displacement issues, the Chinese Three Gorges Dam project in the Yangtze
Valley
remains the most powerful and largest scale power plant in the world.
1.5 miles in length and 600 feet high, the dam generates enough electric
power to equal 18
nuclear power plants.
2. Video Screen
Imaginably you wouldn’t find the world’s largest video screen in your
average home. Instead, it is located on the entire from of the the
Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the 11th-largest stadium in
Brazil. The screen displays images, video, and acts as a giant
scoreboard that stands 65 feet high and 560 feet long.
1. Freestanding Structure
The largest man-made freestanding structure on the planet is the New
Century Global Center located in China and takes up 19M square feet of
space. Inside the structure holds a 14-screen IMAX theater, ice skating
rink large enough and sanctioned for international competitions, a
complete Mediterranean village replica, oh, and a water park large
enough for 6,000 visitors.
Man-made and natural, big fascinates us – big size, big power, and
big numbers! If you haven’t visited some of these big sites find the
closest one and take a trip.
